10 ridiculous things I am looking forward to

3 October 2008 6 Comments
  1. New Zealand telephone rings. Is it a double ring like in England, or more North American sounding?
  2. Getting a NZ cellphone number. No particular reason, it just tickles me is all.
  3. Visiting a NZ pharmacy. I cant wait to discover all the new skin care, bath stuff, and makeup lines we don’t have here.
  4. Watching the toilet flush counter-clockwise. It does do this, right?
  5. Having an accent. I can’t imagine how this is going to work out, but I think it will be a little hilarious hearing Kiwi accents all of the time.

  6. Calling home and hearing the Canadian accent. I would imagine that after being in NZ for a while, I’ll become a little immune to its charms. Calling home should be a real trip; I imagine our accent to be broad and flat, not lyrical like our southern cousins.
  7. Riding my bike on the left side of the road. To practice, Ive taken to riding down the left-hand side of one way streets here to get a taste of what it will be like.
  8. Hokey-pokey. I keep hearing how NZ is the ice-cream eating capital of the world, and how hokey-pokey is the BEST ice cream going. I totally love ice cream!
  9. Surprising the locals with my very limited Maori. I know “kia ora”, “haere mai” and my personal favourite, “kei te pehea koe” (that one took AGES to learn).
  10. Changing my Facebook network from Toronto to New Zealand.

According to Snopes, the ‘toilet flushing counter clockwise’ is a myth (http://www.snopes.com/science/coriolis.asp). You can test it out and let us know when you get there!

    1. I don’t remember. Please let me know.
    2. I live in Norway and have an Estonian landline number. It throws people off when I call them. :)
    4. I forgot to check. Please let me know.

From what I am told, the toilet would flush counter-clockwise if they used the same types of loos as we do here. Apparently, they don’t, the water just whooshes straight down, so to speak. But will definitely get back to you with a definitive answer!

Hokey pokey icecream is THE BEST! Cant belive that they dont have it in Canada. There are so many NZ food treats that you havent tried yet. We are hosting a Fejoa party in your honor. We are going to eat fejoa, drink fejoa bubbles, fejoa vodka – google 42 below – its one of the finest products to come out of new zealand since the pavlova (what ever Australians, WE thought of it first!!)

Ahem…anyway – I have a list – and we will tick all them all off – I promise!!

YAAAY! Omg Wheezie. In a week I will be in Taiwan with Alex, and then a few days later with YOU LOVELY KIWIS! So surreal. I think Im finally getting excited, now that the move is done (am sitting on an airmattress at the moment lol).

I am not going to google Fejoa so that I will be completely surprised when I find out what it is. I cant wait!

And why does it not surprise me in the least to learn that you have a list? Yaay for lists! lol
