I’ve been in Wellington for the last four days, scoping out the job situation mostly (and praying to god that I find something), but also to meet my future flatmates and make sure we all get on. So far so good. And while I havent got a job lined up, Ive a very good prospect that should land me six months of work. Hallelujah.

I so miss my little felines. I loved watching this fellow, he had this big black ball that was tethered to the side of a wading pool. He would knock the ball into the water, then spend ages licking it like a giant gobstobber. Very playful, yet very dangerous. His keeper told me that the zoo staff NEVER went into his enclosure while was inside, that he never had human contact as they wanted him to remain as wild as possible. Inspired by these absolutely astounding photos, I went to the Auckland Zoo one day last week. While nowhere near in size to the one in Toronto, it was pretty lovely and I enjoyed my afternoon there. As I walked around, I tried to see the animals the way that Nick Brandt (the aforementioned photographer) might, even though I knew mine would look quite different what with my animals being in a zoo and not the wild, oh and on account of me being a rank amateur ;)

I made it to Monday, and am now happily halfway through Tuesday. Ive bought my train ticket to Wellington and am making my other travel arrangements later tonight. Everything is falling together effortlessly, and Im feeling really good about my decision to move cities. Of course, I still dont have work lined up there, and the money I have now isnt going to go very far, but at least I moving in a positive direction instead of spinning my wheels.

It’s 8am on Saturday morning and I am wide awake, unable to sleep. I’ve been waiting for weeks to receive a much needed cheque for work that I completed in December and had been assured from the advertising agency that I did the work for, that it would be deposited into my bank account on Thursday.
Thursday came and went, no money. I tried to contact them, no reply. Friday, yesterday, was Waitangi Day and so a public holiday. I think they cut out early on Thursday to make it an …
