Moving on!

I figured if this cow could make it up the hill, so could I. Cable Bay, New Zealand.

I figured if these cows could make it up the hill, so could I. Cable Bay, New Zealand.

It’s been a super busy time for me lately. I moved house over the last few days, and am now living with my friend Naiana, a girl I met up in Nelson in April. A group of CouchSurfers from Christchurch were up for the Easter long weekend and invited me on a day trip out to Cable Bay. Absolutely gorgeous spot, has a massive hill that completely kicked out asses. The view was worth it though!

My last apartment while nice, was a very stressful environment for me. The building was probably around 50 years old, and the walls and floors thin. I was constantly woken at the crack of dawn by the upstairs neighbour’s alarm clock, or kept up because the next door neighbours were banging around in their kitchen at midnight. Toss in property managers who didnt really care about the state of the building (or that said next door neighbours had turned my power and hot water off one drunken night), and I couldnt wait to get out of my lease.

Last night was my first night in the new place, and it was blissful. I woke this morning at 7am, and was startled as that hasn’t happened in months ; I’m used to waking up at 430am, putting in ear plugs, then trying to get back to sleep for three hours before giving up and dragging myself into work. No wonder Ive been so tired!). So while I have given up the luxury of living by myself, my rent has been slashed by 2/3rds and my new building is *quiet*. Plus, I think having flatmates here is going to be really good for me, as I really like the people I’m now living with.

This move marks the beginning in an exciting time for me: the beginning of the beginning of the end of my time in NZ. Tonight I’m off to Auckland for the Labour Day long weekend, then in a few weeks I’m heading to Wellington for the Toast Martinborough Food and Wine Festival. Six weeks later will be Christmas break, and Kat and I are heading out on a 10 day road trip to the West Coast, Abel Tasman, and Marlborough Sounds areas. Two weeks after that I finish work, and fly to Australia for 10 days, before coming back for my final month in Godzone — a 5 week tiki tour around the North Island. I’ve waited a loooooooong time for this moment to arrive and I can hardly believe that it’s starting.

Thanks! I’m sorry to be leaving NZ as I love it here, but I’m more excited to get on with getting on… too much work and not enough travel!
