Auckland

I lived in Auckland from November 2008 when I arrived, until the middle of March 2009. I never really fell in love with the city, although that could be because I had such a hard time finding work so money was always a stress. I also made a poor choice in where to live, so that didnt help.

The other night there was a massive earthquake not too far from Milford Sound, along with a tsunami warning as the quake happened out in the open sea. I was there not too long ago, and was surprised that there was a fault line there, the landscape seems to larger than life and looming; stable.

Auckland is not a cheap city. While beer and wine are startling affordable to a Canadian such as myself, food is *always* more expensive. I’ve found that I go through money a hell of a lot faster here than I did in Toronto, something that is a little bit scary considering I do not have a steady income. Ash and Elisa have gone down to Napier to visit E’s family for the week, so left to my own devices, I hopped on the ferry to Devonport yesterday for a walk around. I’m really surprised that there aren’t more easily-accessible waterfront parks in this city, considering that it has two harbours and water can be seen from pretty much every vantage point.
